Stewardship Meetings

Stewardship Meetings

STEWARDSHIP MEETINGS will be held on the following dates and locations:  Thursday, 30 October: 712 Druid Hill Avenue (Mary Leigh); Wednesday, 12 November: 3020 Saint Paul Street (Brad Weesner); and Saturday, 22 November: 1901 Park Avenue (Gerry Stacy).  The meetings will begin with dessert and coffee at 8.30 PM and will be led by parishioner Cody Miles.  Pledge Cards will be available at the meetings. We hope to collect the cards on Thanksgiving Day and Advent Sunday (and anytime we can have them, really!)  Come and join the conversation about our mission, ministry, and how we need to fund them.  Be thinking now about what this parish means to you and what you can do to further the work it does.  Need a ride?  Don’t be shy!  Let someone know or speak to Fr Parker.

Welcome, Bishop Sutton

THIS SUNDAY WE WELCOME OUR BISHOP, The Right Reverend Eugene Taylor Sutton, to his church in the Charles and Waverly Villages.  The Bishop will meet with the Vestry at 9:00 AM, and will celebrate the Mass with us at 10:30 AM.  After the Service, Bishop Sutton will join us all for informal conversations with parishioners and friends over Asian delights prepared by parishioner Thavinh Keomanivong.  Please join the Bishop in the Solarium, which may be reached by passing through the doors under the organ façade and turning to the left.  Welcome home, Bishop Sutton!

Thank You, Gail!

GAIL KREUSINGER has been a whirlwind of cleaning as she has taken up the slack left by our ailing Sexton.  Do give her a hearty 'thank you!' for taking care of so much housekeeping in both the church and the Parish House.

Visitor Cards

NEW PEW CARDS for visitors and inquirers are in the pew racks and in the back of the church.  Take a look!

Retirement of Our Sexton

IT IS WITH SINCERE REGRET that I must announce to you the retirement of our beloved Sexton, Anthony.  Anthony has been in declining health for the past year and the toll of it has finally made it impossible for him to carry out his responsibilities here at the church.  He is in Union Memorial Hospital as this is written and he requests your prayers.  Visits are most welcome, but call the hospital before you go to make sure he is still there.   Anthony is not up to a “farewell party”, but we will have a basket at the back of the church today and for the next several Sundays to receive thank you contributions for his more than ten years of work and service to our parish family and community.  Please be both grateful and generous.   Checks should be made out to the church, marked for him in the memo.  JLAP+

Do You Pray with the Church?

Do You Pray with the Church?

Other than your own private prayers, each Christian commits to “continue... in the prayers” at every Baptism or renewal of Baptismal Promises (BCP p.304) .  These “prayers” are the prayers of the Church, which go beyond our personal prayers and concerns.  These are the universal prayers of the whole church, in which we, as members, join regularly.  In our tradition and Communion they are  expressed in what is called the Daily Office, our public morning and evening prayers offered here at the church.  Not everyone can or is expected to make it daily to the church for these prayers.  What a joyful new world that would be!  But everyone is encouraged to make it when they can, and is expected to join in at some point privately at home, morning and evening, when they can’t.   These prayers deliver us from self-concerned prayer alone, and place us in the broader stream of concerns and praise expressed by the whole Church.  They are a model for how to order our private prayers.   Enrich your prayer life with them.  Don’t neglect your share of the daily round of the Prayer of the Church.  Find them on pages 57 and 61 in the Prayer Book.  If you can, join in the prayers at home at the same time they are offered here at the Church.  If you want to get help with them, contact one of the following:  Bard Wickkiser, Bruce Wertheimer, Gerry Stacy, John Baber, Vernon Corey, John Roach, Eric Whitehair, Dn Conway, Fr Kroh, or Fr Parker.

Mattins is at 7.45 AM and Evensong at 5.45 PM.   Please join us for a Choral Eucharist at 6:30 PM, followed by a welcome home pizza party in the Solarium Garden.  (The Rector’s Garden is just too dark!)

Are You Traveling?
