Remember the Church in Your Will

“THE MINISTER OF THE CONGREGATION is directed to instruct the people, from time to time, about the duty of Christian parents to make prudent provision for the well-being of their families, and of all persons to make wills, while they are in health, arranging for the disposal of their temporal goods, not neglecting, if they are able, to leave bequests for religious and charitable uses.”

The Book of Common Prayer, page 445.

To put it very simply: plan for your death by making a Will, plan for your family in the Will, remember the Church in your will.  Our parish is still ministering because thoughtful people over the years have left us generous amounts of money in their Wills.  A generous amount is whatever God moves someone to give, according to their means, to further the parish mission.  Please include the parish in your estate plans.  And remember: No gift is too small and no gift is too large!

Hats, Gloves and Mittens

THE WAVERLY FAMILY CENTER is looking for hats, gloves, and mittens for infants and toddlers (and Mom might need a pair, too.)  Are you able to pick some up next time you are out?  Leave them at the Font, along with the food for the Franciscan Center, and Deacon Conway will get them to the Family Center.  Do you knit?  Start now.  They can use as many as you can make.

Advent Forum

Advent Forum

PLEASE SIGN UP for the coming Advent Forum.  Deacon Conway will be leading discussions based on the book Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam by author James W. Moore.  These discussions will take place each Sunday of Advent at 9.15 AM in the Rectory.  The sign-up sheet is on the Solarium bulletin board.  Use the Forum to help focus your Advent in order to celebrate a better Christmas!

Advent Begins Next Sunday

NEXT SUNDAY IS THE FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT.  The Liturgy will make a sharp turn as we begin to prepare ourselves to celebrate the meaning of the Lord’s birth and contemplate his Second Coming.  Make each of the four Sundays of Advent a special event as you prepare for a holy Christmas.

Beth Mowry

IT IS MY SAD DUTY to announce the death of our parishioner Beth Mowry.  Beth died early last Friday morning after a long illness.  We will surely miss her devotion to the Church, her wit, her style, and her zest for life.  Remember her, her son Michael, and their family in your prayers.   Her requiem will be here on Wednesday, 12 November, at 10.00 AM.  JLAP+

We Have a New Sexton!

Veterans' Day

YOU ARE INVITED to a service for our Armed Forces Veterans at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on Tuesday, 11 November, at 11 AM.  Those active and retired DOD and MDDF personnel so-authorised are encouraged to wear service uniforms.  Everyone who is free is encouraged to go to the service to give thanks and prayer for those who guarded and guard our freedom.

Have You Noticed the Light?

Last Saturday, ahead of the Bishop’s visitation, the light bulbs in the hanging chandeliers were all changed by John Baber, his brother-in-law, Rio Lucero, and Dean Sartori.  This was no simple task involving as it did a massive ladder and much dexterous climbing and hanging.  These three stalwarts saved the church about $1,900 in electrician fees!  One hanging fixture is broken, so please forgive the darkness there until we can figure out how to get it fixed.  Thanks, guys!!
