The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, June 30

MONDAY, 30 JUNE, IS THE TRANSFERRED FEAST OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL.  We will celebrate with a Choral Eucharist at 6.30 PM, followed by cold drinks and the hors d’oeuvres you are encouraged to bring to share.  This celebration of the two great missionary saints and leaders of the early church is the first of our three summer evening festivals.  The others are the Feast of Saint Mary Magadalene, 22 July, and the Feast of Saint Mary the Virgin, 15 August.  Plan ahead to be at all three, and keep up with each other during the Long Vac.  (Bring a cold hors d’oeuvre to share, if you can, but above all COME!)

The "Long Vac"

The "Long Vac"

THE LONG VAC BEGINS on Monday, 16 June.  Daily Offices are suspended until Michaelmas Day (29 September) and there will be one service on Sundays, which will be at 10.00 AM until Michaelmas, when we resume our regular schedule.

Vestry Meeting, June 22

THE VESTRY WILL MEET on 22 June.  Please note this change from the regular schedule to accommodate the two great holy days which occur today and next week.  Vestry Officers will be elected at this meeting and new Vestry Members will sign the Vestry Oath.

Trinity Sunday

TRINITY SUNDAY, 15 June, is one of the seven principal Feasts of the Church Year.  Choral Evensong of Trinity Sunday will be sung at 4.00 PM in addition to the morning services.  The Choral Season concludes with Trinity Sunday and we bid farewell to our Choristers until Michaelmas (29 September).  Please give them a hearty thank you for a beautiful season.

WEDNESDAY IS THE FEAST OF SAINT BARNABAS, and the Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 8.00 AM in the Lady Chapel.

Funeral for Jack Arnold

IT IS WITH SADNESS that I inform the congregation of the death of our parishioner and friend, Dr Jack Arnold.  Jack died suddenly this past Wednesday morning.  The funeral will be on Tuesday at 10.00 AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd1401 Carrollton Ave, Towson, MD 21204.  Jack and his wife, Mary Sue, were married at Good Shepherd and interment will be there at a later date.  Because of the small size of the church, and the breadth of Jack’s professional and social relationships, if you plan to attend please arrive much in advance to obtain parking and seating.

Choral Evensong

Choral Evensong

CHORAL EVENSONG of Pentecost will be sung this afternoon at 4:00 pm, and then next Sunday, Choral Evensong of Trinity Sunday will be sung, closing the Choir Season. Changes to the Vestry

NEW VESTRY MEMBERS WERE ELECTED at the Annual Meeting: Brad Weesner and Bruce Wertheimer were elected to full terms and Janyelle Thomas was elected to fill the unexpired term of Bob Reed.  Please thank these parishioners for their willingness to serve, and support them in prayer.

MORE THAN A WORD of thanks is due to Larry HarbackDawn Kline, and Bob Reed for their devoted and helpful work as members of the Vestry.  Larry and Dawn rotated off this year, and Bob moved too far away for regular meetings, though we are fortunate that he remains an active member of the parish.  Your Vestry works very hard to manage the temporal affairs, and to be a council of advice and leadership in the spiritual affairs of the parish.   Please thank these good servants for a job well done.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

MEMORIAL DAY recalls the sacrifice of those in our Armed Forces, and others, who gave their lives for the liberty we enjoy.   We will pray for them and remember them with thanksgiving in a community service on the observance of Memorial Day, Monday, 26 May, at 10.00 AM.  Please take the time to come to God’s House to offer your prayers and thanksgivings for those known and unknown who gave their future for your today.   Bring someone with you to share in this solemn and grateful remembrance.

Volunteer for the Altar Society!

Volunteer for the Altar Society!

THE ALTAR SOCIETY is in need of new recruits!  We have just a few dedicated volunteers who prepare for and cleanse after services, only one person to help with sewing, just a couple to work with flowers, and a small group to serve as acolytes.  Can you help in some capacity?  Please speak to the Rector if you can help.  Without sufficient volunteers, we cannot continue the kind of beautiful services which are the hallmark of our worship and a principal initial draw for new members.

The Annual Meeting of the Congregation

THE ANNUAL MEETING of the Congregation will be held next Sunday, 18 May, following the 10.30 AM service.  Guild Leaders, please submit your reports as a Microsoft Word Document, ready to be printed, by noon, 14 May.

The Huntingdon Croquet Tournament

Last Saturday's thunderstorms dampened our croquet pitch, but not our spirits!  The 22rd Annual Huntingdon Croquet Tournament has been rescheduled for this Saturday, May 17 at 4:00 pm in the Rectory garden.  Wear your whites, bring a dish to share, and come ready to play!
