REMINDER: Lady Day, Tuesday, March 25

TUESDAY IS THE FEAST OF THE ANNUNCIATION: LADY DAY.  The Choral Eucharist of the Day will be celebrated at 6.30 PM, with refreshments to follow in the Solarium.  Lift the veil of Lent and celebrate the promise of the Messiah!  Join us on Tuesday evening with your friends.

Feed My Sheep

THE FEED MY SHEEP PROGRAM will be the focus of our special collection each Sunday of Lent.  Please be as generous as you can in order to enable us to continue this ministry to the hungry and homeless.  Many people add what they have saved from their abstinence to their contributions to the Lenten Appeal.  This can add up quickly, enabling us to prolong the program.  Your contributions will make a direct and important difference in someone’s life.

Thanks to Father Earls and Father Meeks!

TWO OF OUR PRIEST ASSOCIATES have officially retired.  Fr John Earls has just recently completed retirement procedures, and Fr Edward Meeks completed the process some months ago.  Both of these much loved priests deserve our gratitude for their years of association and generous service to Saint John’s.  In the not too distant future they will be moving to South Carolina where both have family.  We hope they will be with us again before they make the big move.  Please do write a note of congratulations on vocations well served, and of gratitude for their contribution to our parish life.  Their current address may be found in the church directory.

Help Our Sexton!

PATIENCE REQUESTED: Our sexton, Anthony Laury, has been seriously disabled over the past three weeks.  He is recovering now and doing his best to try to keep up with the work of tending our buildings.  If you notice something that isn’t as “up to snuff” as it usually is around the church, if you are able, pitch in and help us out by taking care of it.  Anthony has been an exceptionally dedicated part of our parish life for almost ten years.  If you can help out, please do.

Seafarers' Center

THE SEAFARERS’ CENTER needs current magazines, calendars, and warm clothing of all kinds.  Bring your contributions in small sturdy bags, and place them at the Font with the food offerings for the Franciscan Center.  Remember, older volunteers have to haul the bags up gangways, so keep them small

Wednesday Lenten Study

THE WEDNESDAY LENTEN STUDY ‘I am an Anglican: What do I believe and what makes me different?’ will meet in the Parish House.  This will be a wide-ranging discussion geared toward exploring our tradition and our peculiar approach to understanding our Catholic Faith.  Soup, salad and bread will be on offer as we begin.  Our first meeting will be on 12 March at 6.30 PM.  Come and let your questions be asked!!

Weekdays in Lent

WEEKDAYS IN LENT are all days of some form of abstinence.  All Fridays in Lent are days of special devotion and abstinence in commemoration of the Crucifixion.  There is no Lenten observance on the following feast days: Wednesday, 19 March, Saint Joseph’s Day; Tuesday, 25 March,  Annunciation Day, or ‘Lady Day’.

Open House - Volunteers Needed

Good-natured and smiling people are needed to welcome visitors to our church between 4 and 6 pm next Sunday, as we welcome our two neighborhood villages to our "Open Church."  Please speak to the Rector, Fr. Parker, if you can help.

The "Short Vac"

The Christmas 'Short Va' begins tomorrow.  There will be no Daily Offices at the church until January 2nd.  Keep the Office, the Prayer of the Church, at home through this time.  The daily round of prayer and praise is unceasing!

Greening

Greening

Much fun and work has made the church as beautiful as it is today.  Diane Beckman and Sue O'Neill deserve most of the credit for both.  The 'greening' last Wednesday was a big success due in large part to their efforts before, during and after the event.  Many thanks to them, and to all who came to green the church and enjoy food, fellowship and fun.  It was a great evening!
